This website is dedicated to promoting and advocating the right to choose what we read. As an English Language Arts educator, it is absolutely imperative to encourage students to read many types of books and to challenge their own thinking. The ability to discuss, disseminate, analyze, and question not just literature, but everything in our world is an important critical thinking skill that we must encourage students to acquire. Through the reading of many different texts, we push our students to be critical thinkers and to question the world we live in.
This website includes information on intellectual freedom and censorship in literature, the analysis of 5 banned or challenged books combined with the reasons for past banning or challenging, and why these books should be read in schools.
